Curiosity kills a cat.
Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, “You shall eat of any tree in the garden?”
And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the tress in the garden, but God said,”You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.”
But the serpent said to the woman, “You shall not surely die. Fod God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.
So the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.
Genesis 3:1-6
The serpent questions what God has said and then calls God a liar. The woman has to set the enticing fruit, the desire to have knowledge like God’s, against God’s plain command. Eve exaggerates God’s strictness and plays with temptation. Does she want simply to know as God knows or to be God’s equal? The decision is deliberate and fatal. The silent Adam makes no protest. He too eats. Man and woman have chosen to go their own way to disregard the God who gave them life. ( Ghillean Prance)
I think this story is the best illustration of deception. It all started with a lie, Satan is the accuser and father of lies. Eve was curious and enticed by the fruit so she was easily deceived. I was wondering what if Eve took some time to think before she ate and Adam consulted God first instead of listening to Eve? But I found the answer from Mark Hart, “God didn’t give Adam and Eve the right time to decide what was good and evil. He gave them the right to choose between good and evil.” They have the power to choose.
I realized the enemy would use any situation so we will fall into sin. He is revising what God says, so we will be left in wonder, like those “what-ifs in our head?” Those little things that we thought would not produce greater impacts on our lives. Satan is able to make lies look like the truth. Thus, the Bible always reminds us to always put on the whole armor of God because we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. The more that God used you, the more that the enemy attacks you.
Would this please God? Would this honor him? Would I be proud of my future self if I do this? or is this for me, to satisfy my own desires, for my temporary pleasures?
At times we forget to ask these questions because of our pride, we thought we already know anything or we can handle things on our own strength. But God wants to be involved in all aspects of our lives and He wants us to learn something from our mistakes. He clearly sees our intentions and motives and the consequences will help us to grow our faith in Him. He gives us the power to choose between good and evil, and there are consequences for our choice.
These past few days, I’m letting my feelings drive me crazy, like a nut, I was too curious about someone but finally, I woke up! Indeed, curiosity kills a cat. It was my mistake too, I simply chose it though others also gave me warning signs so I need to be accountable for my choice and face the consequences. But thank God it wasn’t that harmful I was hurt but I learned so many things. Like a blessing in disguise. I think God just uses that person to shake me and be more courageous in this path that I would venture, to be wiser like serpents and innocent like doves. It is still a wonderful month, full of shaking, emotions that turn into poetry, and realizations. But I won’t use my research skills anymore to find clues and hints about that person to protect my peace, it’s enough, confusion isn’t good the same as curiosity, you will just get hurt if you know many things, enough is enough darling yet I’m still grateful to him.
Flee from the things that withhold your peace.
At times it’s already apparent that it would harm us but because we want to satisfy our curiosity we would still venture into it, not until it causes pain. And now I understand other ladies who are telling me about this and maybe that’s the good part of it, it’s easier now to put myself in their shoes. And I’m glad also because I am not protecting myself from hurt anymore, like hiding my truest self or not allowing anyone to enter my life, the introvert is finally going outside her cocoon; unafraid of pain, rejections, and criticisms. I will just be careful next time and listen to my advisers and of course, surrender everything to the Lord.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against the flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Ephesians 6: 10-12
And if you fall into temptations like Eve, like most of us, God is forgiving, God restores because He is love. He wants you to learn from your wrong decisions so you can grow in Him, you will learn more in life so He can use you fully if you surrender your life to Him. God doesn’t want you to live in sin and to suffer in life thus He sent His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for your sins. No amount of sin he cannot forgive, seek Him and tell God that you want to live a new life for Him and you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior. God can purify your heart and mind and cleanse you, give you a new life- a life with meaning and purpose. He doesn’t want you to live in lies and in deceptions, He is a forgiving Father beloved. In Jesus Christ, you are a new creation, He can restore you. Whatever the pain nor suffering you’ve been through, God can save you. Allow Him to fill your emptiness so you can experience His fullness. Have faith in Him.
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.
Romans 5:6
For one who had died has been set free from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ being raised form dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Romans 6:7-11
